Senior Research Scientist

Riccardo Bassiri

Senior Research Scientist, Deputy Director of the Center for Coatings Research

Dr. Bassiri co-leads the materials research efforts of the group. He is also Deputy Director of the Center for Coatings Research, which is a collaborative project involving nine US institutions that seeks to extend the reach of the next generation of gravitational wave detectors by addressing the dominant noise source limiting their performance, thermal noise in the interferometer mirrors. His research focuses on studying the materials used in the gravitational wave detector optics, for both current and future generations of detectors. As a consultant for the Stanford Photonics Research Center (SPRC), he works on enabling projects that brings together the photonics community at Stanford with partners in industry and institutions around the world.

Dr. Bassiri also holds an Honorary Research Fellow position at the University of Glasgow, Scotland.
